Title - Beyond the Black Box: Pioneering Explainable Solutions for Dynamic Library and Information Centers

Abstract
Artificial Intelligence (AI) represents a paradigm-shifting force that has revolutionized nearly every facet of modern life. However, the 'black box' nature of many AI models raised concerns about accountability, fairness, and potential biases. Explainable AI (XAI) emerged as a response to the increasing complexity of artificial intelligence systems, particularly those employing deep learning techniques, which often operate as 'black boxes' with inscrutable decision-making processes.
Considering the potential uses of AI, libraries and information centers need to embrace these technologies for their decision-making processes and services. However, it is critically important to ensure transparency and ethics in the LIS landscape when using AI. In this seminar we discuss Explainable AI as an approach to demystifying the AI 'black box,' and explore the dimensions based on which we can foster trust, ethical practices, and responsible use of AI in the library prospect.
This seminar explores integration of AI in modern libraries, showcases real-world applications, navigates the 'black box' dilemma, and offers strategies for future proofing library AI. Since XAI is in the early stages of the evolution, the seminar fosters an open dialogue, highlighting the value of continuous learning and ethical decision-making in an ever-evolving AI landscape within the library and information science community.
